We have added a feature which allows users to ping hosts using standard ICMP pings. To use ICMP ping simply leave the port value as 0, which will tell our server to perform ICMP ping rather than port specific ping.
You would think that since this is a PING tool, the ICMP would be the main component of it. However, in our design we were focusing on Port connections rather than host discovery. Now, both options are available!

Another type of ping options has been added to the system (Web Discovery).
This feature allows the host name to have a page address appended to it (ex. www.pingtool.net/MyAccount/index.php). Our system will first attempt to connect to the host, and then retrieve the specified web page. We are looking for page status to be "200" which indicates a successful retrieval. Anything other than status 200, is considered as bad response and a loss notification will be sent to the assigned contacts.
